Security Team

Canada Web Hosting has Information Security Professionals that craft and manage its security policies and systems. These IT security professionals are responsible for continuous threat analysis and any data forensics necessary to prevent similar security breaches in the future. Background checks, certification and continuous training are used to ensure the integrity of Canada Web Hosting's personnel.

Facility Security

Physical security is tightly controlled at both our Vancouver and Toronto data centers. Both hosting facilities are manned 24/7 and have electronically controlled and video monitored access points with man-traps. Access to data centers is strictly limited to authorized engineering personnel. Canada Web Hosting's Data Center Physical and Environmental Security Document is available upon request.

Network Security

Canada Web Hosting's network is monitored around-the-clock from a state-of-the-art Network Operations Centre (NOC) in Vancouver 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

• Redundant Network Firewalls

  Firewalls play a critical role in any network. To help control communications between the Internet and your server(s) with maximum flexibility and effectiveness, Canada Web Hosting has redundant firewalls protecting each of its dedicated network segments. These stateful packet-inspection firewalls dynamically monitor the exchange of packets, effectively opening holes for each communications session on an as-needed basis and then close the holes as soon as they're no longer needed for authorized traffic. Customers can be on a shared network segments which include redundant firewalls or have their own dedicated network and firewalls.

• Network Intrusion Protection

  Canada Web Hosting offers managed network and host-based intrusion protection systems. These state-of-art systems filter network traffic for known vulnerabilities and attack signatures, record unauthorized changes, protect against DDoS attacks and report problems to Canada Web Hosting's security team.

• Managed VPN Service

  Canada Web Hosting offers customers a managed Virtual Private Network (VPN) service using Cisco or Linux technology. A VPN allows sensitive server administrative functions to be encrypted and done as safely and easily as if your web, database or file server was on your desk and not locked-up in one of Canada Web Hosting's hosting facilities.

• OS Hardening

  Canada Web Hosting deploys hardened Linux and Windows OSs in its Synergy and eMax hosting platforms. Non-essential applications are removed or turned-off by default and all known operating system and application-level vulnerabilities are patched.

• Proactive Security Patching

  The failure to patch web, mail and database severs in a consistent and timely manner is the number one cause of security breaches that can compromise your business. Canada Web Hosting policy is to patch Windows and Linux servers within 6 hours of any emergency security patch releases and within 48 hours of non-critical patch releases. You can arrange a patch management policy with your Technical Account Manager.

  Canada Web Hosting performs routine security audits to ensure compliance with company security policies and procedures. These audits include vulnerability testing on active servers and forensic investigations of randomly selected servers and key systems to ensure their integrity.
