What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?
Virtual Private Server (VPS) technology allows multiple, independent Operating Systems to run on a single physical server to share hardware, licenses and management effort with maximum efficiency. Each VPS performs and executes exactly like a dedicated server. Each VPS can be rebooted, has its own root access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries and configuration files. Virtual Private Server FAQs
Virtuozzo - Enterprise Quality VPS Technology.
Virtuozzo™ was designed to enable IT organizations to maximize server resources through advanced virtualization technology, and manage the IT infrastructure easily with an advanced set of administration tools. Virtuozzo makes scalability and manageability a reality in distributed platforms computing, in many cases providing an immediate or very fast return on investment.
Virtuozzo design concepts:
Dynamic Partitioning
Virtuozzo™ partitioning creates multiple isolated
partitions or Virtual Private Servers (VPSs) on a single physical
server to share hardware, licenses, and management
effort with maximum efficiency. Each VPS performs and
executes exactly like a stand-alone server. A VPS can be
rebooted independently and has its own root or
administrator access, users, IP addresses, memory,
processes, files, applications, system libraries and
configuration files (or registry). Virtuozzo partitions
are dynamic, can be created or changed in real-time, can
scale up to the entire physical server and introduce no
measurable performance degradation.
Powerful Resource Management
Virtuozzo resource management allows uncooperative,
independently used VPSs to run on the same physical
server without interference. Virtuozzo includes
sophisticated resource management for CPU, memory,
network I/O, disk space and over 20 other system
resources. Resources can be controlled with simple
minimums (guarantees), maximums (limits), shares or more
sophisticated allocations that allow for specified
overages. Virtuozzo assigns, monitors, accounts and
controls resource levels in real-time and alerts
administrators according to pre-defined criteria.
Virtuozzo resource management allows active VPSs
to use unclaimed resources, which are
immediately released as other VPSs require resources.
Virtualization
Virtuozzo virtualization provides separation of the
VPSs from the physical server hardware, allowing
VPSs and any corresponding application(s) to be migrated
from one physical server to another transparently with
near-zero downtime. The resource management and
monitoring tools provide administrators with the
flexibility to better utilize resources across multiple
physical servers, and reduce or nearly eliminate
planned, unplanned or resource related outages. An
additional benefit of the virtualization technology is
that the underlying OS is always running; therefore,
VPSs are always accessible and recoverable through
self-management Virtuozzo Power Panel.
Efficient Mass Management
Virtuozzo was designed to provide efficient mass
management. The server administrator can efficiently
manage, script and monitor 100s of VPSs that appear as a
collection of applications and processes on a single
server. Templates enable easy deployment and updates of
OSs and applications across hundreds of VPSs at once.
Multiple servers and 1000s of VPSs can be managed
centrally with the Virtuozzo Management Console which provides wizards,
supports global operations and automates many common
tasks. VPS owners can use the browser-based Power Panel to start/stop,
backup/restore, repair and remotely reinstall the VPS without IT support.
